Who we help

Every mind works differently. We start there.

Families come to us with questions. A bright child who dreads reading. A teenager whose effort never shows up in grades. A young adult navigating a new level of independence. Understanding why is the first step to helping.

Children

Thorough evaluations that make sense of a child's struggles, then educational and treatment plans that empower them to reach their full potential.

Adolescents

Clarity for the middle and high school years, when demands on attention, organization, and social life grow faster than anyone expects.

Young adults

Testing plus a thorough look at the transition to adulthood: college accommodations, job performance, relationships, emotional well-being, and daily functioning.

How it works

A clear process, from first call to clear answers

  1. Intake interview

We begin with a parent intake interview and a careful review of medical, developmental, and school history. You tell us the story. We listen.

  2. Gathering perspectives

With your permission, we communicate with teachers, physicians, or therapists so the evaluation reflects how your child functions across settings.

  3. Testing sessions

Your child completes a series of age-appropriate tests with one of our doctors. Sessions are paced to keep kids comfortable and engaged.

  4. Feedback meeting

We meet with you to walk through the results in plain language, answer your questions, and talk through what the findings mean for daily life and school.

  5. A clear written report

You receive a comprehensive written report with clear, individualized next steps you can act on with your school, physician, or therapist.

See what we evaluate

Children who can't read, write, or focus long enough to learn are wired differently. Once we understand why they are struggling, we can help them become more resilient and achieve more social and academic success.

Common questions

Answers before you even ask

What is a neuropsychological assessment?

A neuropsychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of how a person thinks, learns, and manages emotions. It measures skills such as attention, memory, language, and executive functioning, then connects the results into one clear picture that explains what is happening and what will help.

At West LA Neuropsychology, assessments are neurodiversity-affirming. The goal is to highlight strengths as well as clarify the areas where support is needed.

How is a private evaluation different from school testing?

School testing answers a narrow question: does this student qualify for services? A comprehensive private evaluation answers a bigger one: how does this child learn, and what will actually help? It looks across attention, learning, emotional well-being, and more, and it results in individualized recommendations rather than an eligibility decision.

Private evaluations can also serve as Independent Educational Evaluations when families need a qualified second opinion on school testing.

What ages do you work with?

We assess children, adolescents, and young adults. Young adult evaluations also examine the transition to adulthood, including college accommodations, job performance, social relationships, and daily functioning.
